Happy Holidays from the BANHC
This year has really gone by fast! The staff has continued to grow to try to serve all the needs of your pets. I have been looking for a new associate for the last several months so that we may be able to continue to provide our patients with the best. In the meantime, Dr. Pat Trzcinski, ( Dr T.) a relief veterinarian has been working a few days a month to help. She is from the Boston area and graduated from Tufts just a few years before me. Please welcome her as she helps us out
during the busy months. I have also been busy with my own dog, Madeline as she just finished an agility training program. Erik Hatfield and I tied the knot in October. I will still be Dr. Crowley to my patients. Please let us know any comments or suggestions you have for the practice
as we continue to grow in 2001.

Winter First Aid Tips
Wipe your pet's feet when coming in from the winter weather. Be sure to remove any rock salt or any other de-icing product so that they do not ingest any harmful chemicals when they groom themselves.
Be sure to keep all antifreeze away from your pets. Although there are some non-toxic products available, assume that most antifreeze is deadly to your pet. It has a very sweet taste which entices animals to drink it. It usually causes fatal kidney failure unless detected immediately.
If your pet gets a cut from ice or other debris, flush the wound with warm water. Do NOT use hydrogen peroxide as it does not clean the wound and can slow tissue healing. Do NOT use alcohol as it is painful and does not disinfect either. If there is any bleeding, apply pressure
with a towel or rag and seek medical attention.

Training Tip of the Month
Agility classes are special training classes that involve teaching the owner and the dog how to go through an obstacle course off leash. The obstacles are objects such as hoops, weave poles, jumps and tunnels. It can be an excellent activity for dogs with boundless energy, dogs that need to build up their confidence or dogs that just want to have fun! There are classes available in the area with our local trainers. We recommend them highly! Please contact any of our trainers for

- Go for a walk every day with your dog
- Brush your dog or cat to keep mats away. Wintertime static can
cause matting. Treat them to a professional grooming
- Keep the litter box clean to avoid any miscommunication between
you and your cat!
- Get your indoor cat a new toy to keep active and healthy
- Donate extra blankets, toys, cleaning products and food to a
local shelter
- Educate a friend about pet overpopulation

If at anytime you are concerned about your pet's health, please call the office and speak to one of the staff members so that they may set up an appointment or provide assistance for you and your pet.

Emergency Numbers
It is a great idea to keep these numbers handy to have in case of any emergency or predicament your pet may get into. In case of a potential poisoning, try to have the name of the product, ingredients and amount ingested and suspected time of ingestion when you call the hotline.

In Memory
We have had many pets cross over the rainbow bridge in the last few months. Each one of them has their own special story. The memories of the days they spent with us and all the love that they gave. Some were ill for a very long time and others were so full of life until they died. They all had something to give to us so unconditionally, love. For that, we thank and remember the following animals:
