Happy Fall!

Hope this newsletter finds everyone well.  Beautiful weather..great for walks!  Kids are back in school.  Mia just started kindergarten and Amy is so happy to go to preschool to be like her big sister. It does take some time to get into the routine but do make sure you make time for exercise!  You don’t want those winter pounds to get a head start.

Veterinary Partner

Veterinary partner is an excellent website with concise, accurate articles on medical, behavioral and surgical issues. It is easy to use and we recommend it in addition to articles on our website to help educate our clients.

VIN MemberIt is the client version of the Veterinary Information Network (VIN) that Dr Ricketts and I utilize on a daily basis to provide the very  best care for all our patients!

Nutrition update

There is a new pet store that recently opened in Marblehead.  They specialize in great diets and fun pet toys.  Delivery is available as well.  Check out their website at www.wordlypetsoutlet.com

They are located at 21 Tioga Way, just off West Shore Drive. Phone 781-639-8222.

Northeast Animal Shelter

We are working with Northeast Animal Shelter for spay and neuter certificates.  If you are an existing client and adopt from the shelter, we will be accepting the spay and neuter certificates which entitles the adoptee to a pre-operative fee that covers the procedure at a tremendously discounted price.  Please support the shelter and adopt a pet today!

A few things to remember

Wound Care reminder

Please remember NOT TO USE hydrogen peroxide on any wound on your pet’s skin.  It is best to just clean with warm water.  If it is dirty (and not near the eyes), you may use a small amount of soap.  Flush thoroughly.  Some wounds may need additional care so please call the office or emergency clinic if you have any concerns. Unfortunately hydrogen peroxide is damaging to living tissue!

Email

Please use my email, drcrowley@banhc.com for non-urgent information.  It is best to always call the office if you have any concerns about your pet.  If it is during the day, one of us will be able to help you. If over the weekend or holiday (7am-9pm), Dr Ricketts and I check messages every few hours.  Be sure to leave your phone number.  For any urgent care after hours, please call the emergency clinic! We just don’t want anyone to not get the care they need when they need it!

Please Adopt

I would like to encourage all of our clients that are thinking about acquiring  a new pet to please consider a shelter or rescue group.  There are so many dogs, cats, puppies and kittens that are still euthanized due to lack of loving homes.

Although there are some “uncertainties” with adopting animals that may have no known history, the potential benefits are huge.

All of us at BANHC have never “paid” for any of our pets, including Tucker! If you have any questions “pre-adoption”, please call us for advice!

Pets of the Month

Some of the pets available for adoption from the Animal Rescue Network of New England

Ellie

Harris is a 4 year old Doberman Retriever cross who was found as a stray in New York. He has a plate in his leg from an earlier accident that we don't know much about. Our veterinarian says there's no treatment needed. He's an active, strong, affectionate boy who has done well with obedience training.

Rozy is a lovable, gentle, quiet, 50 lb 12-18 month Boxer mix. She gets along with other dogs, male and female, young and old. She walks well on leash and enjoys being close to you and will give you kisses to show how much you mean to her. She is good with children and is very well behaved in public situations.

Zepher is sweet and a delight 35 lb love. This 8 month-old shepherd-yellow Lab mix enters the room as a gentle breeze. How this lovely little girl found herself homeless will never be fully understood. She does all in her power to please people. Her evaluation was without any issues at all, and she is a playful and generous partner. Gentle and sweet. she will likely mature to a comfortable size of about 60 pounds, and if you have room in your heart and home for this tan bundle of devotion, you would do well to visit Zephyr.
