The Whole Pet
News and Tips from Beverly Animal Natural Health Center
The sun has returned! Happy Summer to all. Hope everyone had a safe and happy 4th of July. We all need to get out and enjoy the good weather. Let’s all get out and exercise! No need to deal with extra pounds put on during the rainy June! Healthy lifestyle for pets can lead to great quality of life for all of us!
We have exciting news to share…Dr Ricketts is expecting twins in November! They will be joining her son Kye, turning 3.
Mia and Amy are quite content these days spending a little off time in the clinic hoping to get new kittens soon!
Keep pets out of hot cars! Even in mild temperatures, a dog or cat can get overheated in a car as the temperature inside can reach over 150 degrees. This will cause heat stroke to anyone inside. Please check out www.veterinarypartner.com for more info.
Also be very careful with pets off leash and cars! With the every increasing number of distracted drivers, please be very careful with your pets. Safety is key! When crossing intersections, please make sure you have made eye contact with the driver before crossing, even in a crosswalk!
We also recommend microchipping for all pets to help with identification in case of emergency. Check out www.homeagain.com for more info.
We have recently had an increase in inquiries about pet insurance. There are many more companies starting to offer pet insurance. Insurance can be very helpful for many expenses that may occur over the lifetime of your pet. However, the pet insurance industry is not modeled after the human pet insurance. That can be a good thing with many factors but it also can have it’s drawbacks. There are many exclusions in most policies that are based on breed and age. Please check out www.embracepetinsurance.com for more info as well as comparison spreadsheets.
I will be competing (to finish!) the Ironman at Lake Placid on Sunday July 26th. After a year of training, I will be doing this event for so many reasons! It will be a 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike ride and then 26.2 mile run. Thanks to so many clients that have been with me along the way and a huge thanks to my family and staff! Will give a report in August! Dr. Lisa Jablonski will help in covering the practice while I am away.
