I did it!

I am an Ironman! I completed the Lake Placid Ironman July 26 in 15 hours, 31 minutes and 52 seconds.  2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike ride followed by 26.2 run.  (Yes, a marathon!) What a thrill!  I had such a blast.  The day was perfect.  I had my family there as well as many friends and clients!!  You can check out some highlights video of the Lake Placid Ironman at www.ironmanusa.com.

Thanks for all the support!

Clinic News

Dr Lisa Jablonksi has been very helpful at the clinic as she takes care of our patients and clients while Dr Ricketts was on vacation and I was at the Ironman.  She is a graduate of MIT and Purdue Veterinary School. After vet school, she completed an internship at South Shore Veterinary Hospital.  Like us, she is interested in dentistry and internal medicine.  Dr. Jablonksi will also help us while Dr Ricketts is out on maternity leave taking care of her new babies.

Contact Information

Please be sure to update the office with any cell phone, address and other contact information.  We aim to have two people on every patient's records and all the phone numbers that go along with that!  That can be 2-3 phone numbers per person but we always want to be able to reach you when necessary.  Please be sure to keep your email current as well.

Let us know if you have any interest in email reminders as that is a technologically possible endeavor we may try in the future.

Thanks and keep in touch

Summer Health Issues

Please be sure to keep your dog on Interceptor and K9Advantix!  We have seen quite a lot of parasitism with the weather we have had this year.  Interceptor protects against not only heartworm ( lots of mosquitos this year!) but hookworms, whipworms and roundworms as well.  K9Advantix protects against fleas and ticks as well as repelling ticks, black flies and mosquitos.  Flea season peaks in the humid days of August and September so be vigilant!

We do also have a special deal that Bayer offers 1 free tube of K9Advantix with the purchase of  a 4 pack.

  Liver Disease

There are actually numerous diseases that can affect the liver in both dogs and cats.  Liver diseases can be categorized in many ways.  One way is to look at the cause of the disease.  For example, canine Cushing’s syndrome is a disease caused by hormonal abnormalities.  Hepatic Lipidosis is a fatty liver disease of cats that is due to an abnormality in fat metabolism. Hemangiosarcoma is a cancer that frequently affects the liver.  Microvascular dysplasia is a vascular (blood vessel) malformation common in smaller dogs.

Liver disease can cause one to become jaundice or yellow.  Other symptoms may include vomiting, excessive thirst and weight loss.  There are liver enzymes that we evaluate routinely in our chemistry profiles. Elevations in these can be due to inflammation, infection or cancer.  A bile acid profile is another test that is more of a function test.   Liver disease is most common in older pets but can also affect younger pets.  If you have any concerns about your pet’s health, please call the office to set up an appointment.  You can also read more about liver disease at www.veterinarypartner.com.

 No Smoking!

No SmokingPlease do not smoke!  When pet owners smoke (even outside), they are exposing their pets to second hand smoke.  The smoke gets absorbed into couches, bedding….places where out pets spend several hours a day.  Remember, our pets do not leave the home to go to work, run errands, etc so their exposure is pretty intense.

Second hand smoke is a known carcinogen and our pets do not get to choose.  Please think of yourself AND your pet.  Do what you can do quit smoking!!

 Nutritional Supplements

Vetri-ScienceWe are proud to carry the Vetri-Science line of nutritional products for dogs and cats.

Dogs and cats can benefit from a simple multi-vitamin to more specific anti-oxidant and joint therapy.  Each of their products is scientifically tested and formulated for your pet.  We do not recommend the use of human vitamin supplementation for dogs and cats as there are species variations in needs as well as metabolism of certain ingredients.

You can check out their link on our website under the nutrition section or stop by the office for more info.  Their supplements have great palatability and value.
